The preferred armament for battleships according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1920 no. 5

An item referred to the Journal de la Marine dated 3 July 1920 supporting for battleships a main armament of 3x2-45cm/17.7”  L45 guns with the turrets on the keel line, a secondary armament of 12-14cm/5.5” guns, some quick firing anti aircraft guns, special machineguns as anti torpedo boat armament and against submarines depth charge throwers with a range of 1,5-2 kilometres. Range of the 45cm gun was 50 kilometres firing a armour piercing grenade of 1.500 kilo. The combination of armament, speed and protection asked for a displacement of around 30.000 tons.
