Germany planning an attack on Iceland according to the Dutch newspaper Amigoe di Curacao dated Friday 4 March 1943

An item dated London, England 3 March referred to a well informed source predicting a German attack in the spring on Iceland and the same time occupying the Canary Islands, Dakar (Senegal) and Casablanca (Morocco). The presence of a German battle squadron and transports in Narvik and Trondheim, Norway and the reinforcement of the German airforce in Norway indicated preparations for an attack on Iceland. Iceland played a key role in the North Atlantic. The intention was to isolate England via submarine warfare.
