An item reported that according to well informed sources within the East German government the Neptunewerft at Rostock, East Germany started with the building of torpedo boats for the Soviet Union. The keels of the first four of what was to become a large number of torpedo boats of Soviet design were laid down. Technical details were not known what except that there were several improvements as result of development by Soviet engineers in a number of years. The Rodewerft also located at Rostock started a half year earlier with building a large number of motor torpedo boats for the Soviet Union. Each year were 24 boats to be delivered. The diesel machinery was produced in another East German plant. The torpedo boats were to be used as coastal patrol boats.
