The torpedo plant at Fiume, Yugoslavia increasing production according to a CIA report dated 4 April 1949

An item reported that the torpedo plant (1) at Fiume, Yugoslavia [nowdays Rijke, Croatia] intended to the increase of the production of the torpedoes which had a length of 3,65 metres and an outside appearance similar to Italian pre-war torpedoes. The main difference was however inside while the Yugoslavian torpedoes had a larger explosive charge delivered by the plant at Kamnik [nowadays Slovenia]. The major part of the produced torpedoes were shipped to the naval shipyards in the Pola area [nowadays Pula, Croatia].

Furthermore was the program for reconstruction machinery and tools hastened. The plan a year earlier to adapt machinery and tools needed for producing Soviet type torpedoes was a failure lacking skilled men like mechanics and experts.

1. Founded in the 1850’s, joined by the British engineer Robert Whitehead in 1858 and started building large machinery for the Austrian navy. In 1864 was Whitehead joined by naval captain Giovanni Biagio Luppis for building an exploding boat. On 20 December 1866 however was the first torpedo presented followed by the founding of the Torpedofabrik Whitehead&Comp. Demolished during the Second World War was the factory first named Jadran, since 1947 Aleksandar Rankovic and in 1953 renamed Engine Factory Torpedo. Around 1965/1966 ended the production of torpedoes
