An item reported that the steam fishery vessels used by the British Royal Navy as minelayers were not a complete success caused by their low speed. The intention was now to convert the Hebe-class torpedo gunboats of 1892 for this purpose. At Devonport was first the Gossamer of 1890 to be converted. These boats had an extra advantage namely their small draught.(1)
