Soviet submarines sighted in Albanian waters according to a CIA report dated 10 January 1952

An item reported the presence of modern type Soviet submarines in Albanian waters probably for participating in maneuvers. In the last 10 days of August was a Soviet submarine of around 500 tons seen at the surface with a speed of around 14 knots between the Albanian coast and Saseno Island(1).

1. Saseno Island was a military zone and just since July 2015 open for visitors. In the Cold War founded the Soviet Union a Whiskey-class submarines base on the island. Leaving when the communism fell 4 submarines behind.
