The Norwegian naval shipbuilding program according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1908 No. 1

Tordenskjold

An item reported that a commission formulated a shipbuilding program for the Royal Norwegian Navy including the building of coastal defence ships, destroyers, torpedo boats and submarines. The coastal defence ships were to be an improved Norge type to be armed with 2-25cm or even 28cm guns in turrets and several 15cm guns. (1)

1. The 4.900 tons Bjørgvin-class consisting of the Bjørgvin and Nidaros, ordered by Armstrong Whitworth, Elswick, England in 1912 to add to the Eidsvold and Tordenskjold-class which were to be armed with 2-24cm/9.4” guns, 4-15cm/5.9” guns, 6-10cm/3.9” guns and 2 submerged torpedo tubes. Never delivered by taken over by the Royal British navty at the outbreak of the First World War and commissioned as the HMS Glaton and Gorgon.
