British river gunboat HMS Falcon 1931-1942, Nationalist Chinese Ying Teh 1942-1949 and Communist Chinese Nan Chiang 1949-1974


Launched by Yarrow &Co. Ld., Scotstoun, Glasgow, Scotland on 8 May 1931, commissioned in 1931, handed over to the Nationalist Chinese Navy in March 1942, renamed Ying De, captured by Communist China on 30 November 1949, renamed Nen River and decommissioned in 1974. According to Jane’s Fighting ships 1958-1959 was she first renamed Lung Huan then Ying Teh and at last Nan Chiang.

Displacement 372 tons and as dimensions 46 x 8,7 x 1,5 metres or 150 x 28.7 x 5 feet. The machinery consisted of 4 Parsons Marine Steam Turbine Company geared turbines and 2 Admiralty 3-drum boilers delivering 2.250shp allowing a speed of 15 knots. Crew numbered in British service 55 men and she was then armed with 10 machineguns. 1/2-6pd quick firing Nordenfeldt guns and 1-9,3cm/3.7” Howitzer. Fuel oil bunker capacity 84 ton.
