Danish minelayer Lindormen 1939-1970

Laid down at Navy yard, Copenhagen, Denmark in October/2 November 1939, launched on 30 March 1940, completed in November 1940, scuttled by own crew on 29 August 1943 to prevent capture by German forces, however salvaged and commissioned in German service in 1943 as the VS1401, later renamed V1601, given back to Denmark in May 1945, recommissioned as minelayer and finally stricken on 5 February 1970. Call sign OVKL. Pennant N39. With a displacement of 614 (standard)-645 (full load) tons and as dimensions 53,5 x 8,80 x 2,44 metres. The machinery consisted of 2 vertical triple expansion steam engines with 2 Thonycroft boilers supplying via 2 shafts 1.200 hp allowing a maximum speed of 13, 9 knots an with an oil fuel banker capacity of 35 tons a range of 663 nautical miles. Crew numbered 66 men. Armament consisted originally of 2x1-7,5cm cal 52 M 12 guns, 2/3x1-2cm cal 56 Madsen machineguns, 2x1-0,8 cm cal 80 M 24 machineguns and 138 mines.
