Soviet destroyer seen executing trials near Archangelsk, Russia according to a CIA report dated 12 September 1958


An item reported on 3 June 1958 06:15 o’clock (GMT) a destroyer 20 miles north of the Dvina Lightship executing trials still covered met red lead. Due to the worse weather conditions (rain squall) could the observer not be preciously in his observations. Her length was 250-300 feet, one funnel, a break under the bridge, still lacking her main armament with just a small gun mounted aft visible. Forward of the funnel and abaft was a tripod mast located with at the masthead a half cheese shaped radar aerial. After the funnel was a large structure covered by canvas. At the stern were large king posts with block and tackle hanging from the center seen.
