The harbour of Vidin, Bulgaria according to a CIA report dated 16 December 1954

An item dealing with the harbours along the river Danube reported that the harbour of Vidin, Bulgaria nearby the Yugoslavian boarder participated in the food export. Towards Russia were for instance bread grains, fruits, eggs but also tobacco, cattle, pulp and coal shipped. Due to her geographic location was this harbour of strategically value and protected by well-armed military under supervision of the Vidin Regiment. There is a radio and telegraph office for communication. There was one ferry available built on 4 barges and which had a transport capacity of 48 railroad cars not matter filled or empty. A new and fortified bridge was now under construction probably to replace this ferry in the future.
