F70 type of the Georges Leyques-class, preceded by the Tourville-class and succeeded by Aquitaine-class. Laid down by Arsenal Brest, Brest, France on 12 February 1982, launched on 6 February 1985, commissioned on 18 February 1988. Displacement 3.550-4.500 (full load) tons and as dimensions 139 x 14 x 39,36 x 5,8 metres or 456.0 x 45.11 x 129.2 x 19.0 feet. CODOG 2 Pielstick PA6 V280 STD diesels with 5.200 hp/3.878 kW horsepower and 2 Rolls Royce Olympus TM3B gas turbines with 26.000 hp/19.399 kW allowing a speed of 21 (diesels)-30 (gas turbines) knots and a range of 10.000 nautical miles on diesels with a speed of 15 knots or 1.000 nautical miles on gas turbines with a speed of 30 knots. Armament consist of 1 Crotale EDIR system with 8 missiles on the launcher and 18 spare, 2Simbad systems (2x2 Mistral launchers), 1 CADAM, 1cm gun, 2-2c, guns, 4-12,7cm/0.50 machineguns, 4 Exocet MM38 missiles, 10 L5Mod anti submarine torpedoes  for which 2 torpedo launcher were available and 2 Lynx helicopters.
