Portuguese cruiser 3rd class Republica visited Sabang, Dutch East Indies in 1911

An item reported that the Portuguese cruiser 3rd class Republica (1) visited Sabang, Dutch East Indies (2) between 18-19 April 1911.(3)

1. She was the small protected colonial cruiser Rainha Dona Amélia in 1910 rechristened Republica, launched at the Arsenal de Marina de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal on 12 April 1900 completed on 23 May 1901 and stricken on 20 August 1915 after she stranded off Peniche on the 3rd. The Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 28 April 1911 published an item dated London, England 23rd reporting that the Portuguese government responded on the news that a British cruiser was sent to Lourenco Marques to sent her cruiser Republica with orders to restore the order there. Lorenzo Marques was harassed by fights between the republicans and monarchists.
