An item dated Trieste, Italy 25th reported that in the presence of the Italian king and queen and a large public the Vittorio Veneto was launched. She was the first Italian battleship built since the First World War. Machinery consisted of 4 sets of turbines. After she was blessed was the actual launching executed by the spouse of one of the labourers Maria Bertuzzi.(1)

Of the Littorio or Vittorio Veneto-class, preceded by the Francesco Caracciolo-class (not realized) and Andrea Doria-class, never succeeded. Laid down by Cantieri Riuniti dell’Adriatico, Trieste, Italy on 28 October 1934, launched on 25 July 1937, completed on 15 May 1940, commissioned on 28 April 1940, decommissioned and stricken on 1 February 1948 and broken up at La Spezia between 1951-1954.
