British HMS training establishment Worcester (1875-1948) in 1935


This was the former Frederick William laid down as the sailing 110-gun ship of the line Royal Frederick, in 1841, in 1859 started the conversion into a screw steam ship of the line. in 1876 renamed as a training ship Worcester, foundered in the Thames om 30 August 1948, salvaged and broken up in May 5 years later by Tennant and Horne at Grays.

The photo was published in the Dutch magazine Gelderland in woord and beeld dated 16 August 1935 with as title the arrival  of the First Lord of the Admiralty Sir Bolton Eyres Monsell at the Worcester off Greenhithe to adward prizes to the cadets. (1)

Bolton Mereditch Eyres-Monsell, 1st Viscount Monsell (22 February 1881-21 March 1969) was a British Conservative party politician who was appointed as Civil Lord of the Admiralty between  April 1921 and October 1922 when he became Parliamentary and Financial Secretary to the Admiralty until May 1923 and finally First Lord of the Admiralty in 1931-1935.
