Russian gunboat Bakan stranded off Stenkjaer, Noray according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch Nieuwsblad dated 27 March 1914
An item dated Christiana, Norway 26 March reported that two days earlier off Stenkjaer north of Drontheim the Russian gunboat Bakan stranded. When Norwegian salvage vessels tried to salvage her were Russian officers busy with probing the depth of the harbour Leka while making accurate notes. When a Norwegian policeman wanted to have this notes was this refused. The Russian officers went on land and telegraphed in cipher to St. Petersburg.
