The fitting out of American and Mexican privateers according to Dutch newspaperNoord-Brabander dated 16 July 1846
In a small news item were some details supplied about the acting of the Mexican privateers in the war with the USA. In a letter dated Port Royal, Jamaica 8 June was the arrival there of the small ship Telegraphe on 6 June reported. She was coming from Orleans when she was visited by a Mexican privateer which take with her two captured American merchant ships. While her property papers proved she was English was she allowed to continue her voyage.
The edition dated 28 July referred to the American newspaper Gazette of Philadelphia which newspaper reported that the American president asked the Congress for permissions to give out letters de marque. This was caused by the receiving of a letter from the American envoy at Rio de Janeiro who wrote that a number of privateers Mexican flagged were sighted along the Brazilian coast.
