Mexican gunboat Libertad temporarily missing according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch nieuwsblad dated 2 March 1895

An item dated New Orleans, USA 27 February reported the arrival of the Mexican gunboat Libertad that same day in the mouth of the Mississippi. Everything was well on board. It was feared that’s she had been lost.(1)

1. The edition dated 28 February had published an item dated New Orleans 25 February reported that was feared for the Libertad which left the 10th Vera Cruz bound for New Orleans to be repaired. Since her departure had heavy northern gales raged. On board were fifty men. A flatiron gunboat of the Independencia-class wit as sister ship the Independencia. Both ships were built at Laird in 1874, hulked in 1914 and finally stricken around 1920. With a displacement of 480 tons were her dimensions 38,10 x 7,32 x 2,67 metres, speed 10 knots, a crew numbering 63 men and armed with 1-100pdr gun and 4x1-20pd guns.
