1. Gojong (8 September 1862 Seoul-21 January 1919) was the last Korean king of the Joseon-dynasti and declared himself in 1897 emperor of Korea (Gwangmy-dynasti). His wife was murdered in 1895 and he fled to the Russian consulate in 1896. The Russian empire increased since then her influence in Korean internal affairs. In 1910 annexed Japan Korea the latter lacking powerful military forces.
