French barbette ship Amiral Duperré temporarily grounded according to th Dutch newspaper De locomotief dated 12 June 1895

An item dated Paris 17 May reported that a day earlier at Rochefort a French gunboat was capsized causing the life of four men. The French armoured ship Amiral Duperré struck a rock in the bay of St. Juan.(1) After stopping her leaking was she salvaged and in the meantime brought back to Toulon.

1. Laid down at the shipyard of La Seyne in January 1877, launched in September two years later, completed in 1883 and finally stricken in 1909. With a displacement of 11.030 tons and as dimensions 97,48 (waterline) x 20,40 x 9,43 (maximum) metres. Her armament consisted of 4x1-13.4” guns, 1-6” gun, 14-5.5” guns, 18-1pd revolvers and 4-14” surfaced torpedo tubes.
