American submarine Protector launched according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1902-1903 no. 9
An item referred to the foreign magazine Army and Naval reporting that the submarine Protector was launched at the shipyard of the Lake Torpedo Boat Company at Bridgeport. She was the end result of 20 years designing and experimenting for which the principles of the submarine Argonaut were used. Her displacement while submerged was 175 ton with as dimensions 56’ x 11’. She was fitted out with wheels of paddles to allow to move on the sea bottom. An compartment was available to accommodate divers and from where they could leave the submarine to destroy cables and mines.
