British cable layer Petrol ready for departure to the Far East launched according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1902-1903 no. 9

An item referred to the Times reporting that the new British cable layer Petrol owned by the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company was lying on 2 March at Gravesend ready for departure to her station Singapore. On board was a cable laoded with a length of around 650 miles to be laid between Balikpapan (Borneo) and Menado (Celebes).
