French navy became responsible for defence of sea front of Cherbourg according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1913-1914 no. 9

An item reported that the defence of the so-called seafront of Cherbourg transferred from the fortress artillery to the navy. For the defence of Cherbourg had the navy to supply 1.400 men constisting of sailors, gunners and signallers. The defence of the naval ports Brest, Toulon and Bizerta was in the future also to becoma a responsibility of the navy.
