An item reported that the British submarines had white mice on board while these small animals were very sensitive for even small quantities gasoline damps. The theory was that the crew were alarmed by the peeping of the mice if they noticed the damps. All mice were removed when several sailors on board of the A8 intoxicated without hearing mice peeping. The reason for this was that the engines were such noisy that the peeping could not be heard.
