An item referred to the announcement done by radio Bilbao that a new submarine flotilla fitted out with modern armament was just commissioned to clear the Spanish territorial waters of all foreign submarines including the German and Italian.(1)

1. The Spanish Civil War (17 July 1936-1 April 1939) was fought between the Republicans and the Nationalists (lead by Franco). The flotilla must have been Republican as the newspaper referred to the Red submarines and the Republicans were supported by the Soviet Union, Mexico and volunteers from all over the world.
