Chilean dredgers built for Chile at Rotterdam, Netherlands according to the Dutch magazine De ingenious dated 28 December 1901

An item reported that on 28 December the hopper Meusa left Rotterdam, Netherlands towards Valparaiso, Chile. She was built for the Chilean government at the shipyard of the firm A.F. Smulders at Rotterdam under supervision of professor Dijkhoorn of Delft. Her carrying capacity was 425 ton. Within some weeks was she to be followed by the dredger Holanda. On 24 December was at the shipyard at Slikkerveer the seaworthy steam hopper met suction device called Rhin launched and which was to depart in February 1902 towards Chile.(1)

1. The edition dated 21 September mentioned that on 17 September the hull of seaworthy dredger was launched for account of the Chilean government with as dimensions 43,1 x 7,5 x 3,2 (hold) metres. She was to be used for the harbour works at Valparaiso. Immediately afterwards was the keel laid down for a large seaworthy twin screw hopper dredger for the harbour works at Montevideo.
