French measures against Spanish merchant ships and privateers according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 30 April 1823

Bordeaux, 20 April. According to sea reports dated 16-19 April were none Spanish privateers active in the Gulf of Guscogne. The newspapers dated 20 April reported that the short embargo laid on Spanish merchant ships in French harbours just intended to prevent that French army movements became known in Spain and the minister of navy ordered 14 April to end the embargo. Spanish merchant ships would get the same protection as the French. Only Spanish pirates and privateers were enemies of France and which would be pursued by the French navy.
