London, 19 April. The Frigate Naiad (1) and the corvettes Rifleman (2) and Slaney (3) were fitted out at Portsmouth, England and their captains appointed for service in the Channel. The frigate Brighton (4) was nearly fitted out for her departure towards the American station and the corvette Pasthian (5) was to depart within 10 days towards Plymouth, England with an unknown destination. The ship l'Alliance which arrived at Cowes coming from Havana, Cuba was in the Gulf of Florida twice attacked without success by a pirate goelette flying different flags.

1. A 28-gun 5th rate launched 27 February 1797 by Hill, Limehouse, since January 1847 serving as a coal depot at Callao, Peru and sold 2 February 1866 to the Pacific Steam Navigation Company to use as a coal depot. Dimensions 147 x 40' by a builders measurement of 1.020 ton.
2. A 18-gun brig sloop of the Cruizer-class launched by King, Upnor 12 August 1809 and which was sold 21 January 1836. Builder's measurement of 387 tons.
3. A 20-gun 6th rate launched at Brindle, Frindsbury 9 December 1813, since 1832 serving as receiving ship and in 1838 at Bermuda broken up. Dimensions 116 x 30' with a builder's measurement of 460 tons.

5. The 10-gun brig-sloop Parthian of the Cruizer-class launched at the Plymouth dockyard 22 March 1822 and stranded off Texel 28 November 1824. With a builder's measurement of 235 tons.
