This issue was regularly paid attention to in Dutch newspapers. The Dutch
newspaper published a tiding dated London 5 July dealing with the discussion
around the British navy budget and in which Balfour and other members of the
opposition complained that the cruiser strength was far from sufficient to full
fill her duties. Minister of navy McKenna (1) made clear that the British
Admiralty claimed that there were enough cruisers although there were more
needed for coming year. The armament and the armour of the dreadnoughts was
improved for a better defence against the modern torpedo boats.
