Already eight British-flagged United Fruit Company cargo ships lost according to the Dutch newspaper Amsterdams effectenblad dated 10 February 1941

An item reported that of the 23 freighters of the United Fruit Company under British flag 8 were lost due to the war molest and a ninth heavily damaged. All ships were early 1940 chartered by the British government which was now responsible for the financial consequences.
