An item dated Turin 29 December 1860 reported that off Malamocco a floating battery was stationed to defend the passage. With as dimensions 51 x 18 metres consisted her armament of 32-80pd guns and numbered her crew 300 men. On short notice were to defend the entrance of the harbour of Venice two similar vessels available.(1)
