French navy blockading harbours of Mexico and the Argentinean Republic according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 21 July 1838

The British newspaper Times published some tidings from Vera Cruz dated until 28 May and from Tampico until 8 June. The Mexican coast was still blockaded by the French squadron commanded by captain Bazoche. Around 20 merchant ships were hold up and visited and mostly forced to go backwards and there was no hope for improvement. The ports of Buenos Aires were also still blockaded by the French squadron commanded by Leblanc and although both parties negotiated there was still no solution. In begin May departed Leblanc towards Rio Janeiro leaving some small vessels behind. Probably he wanted to reinforce his strength at Rio and was not expected to return within the next 6 weeks.
