The Algerian navy in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 2 August 1827

Paris, 29 July. In the Quotidienne of 28 July was a news item published dealing with the adventures of the brig l’Arlequin of Bayonne, master Berho, which departed 25 June from Cette towards Le Havre when she was attacked by two Algerian privateers. The master wrote to his spouse and ships owner that the crew hardly had any time left to escape to the land. The sailors arrived without hardly any properties left at the small harbour Adrea.

A French morning newspaper mentioned that two French ships were plundered in the Mediterranean. This must be a misunderstanding while there were two Algerian privateers captured by French cruisers, while trying to depart from their harbour. The news published by another newspaper that 14 privateers left Algiers wasn’t also true.
