Thanks
to the fact that nowadays more and more books are digitized we are able to read
books that are some times for decades no longer available for the public for
several reasons. That’s quite a pity while these books contains useful
information while the archives are destroyed, incomplete or nor accessible.

664: “The stone dry dock at Boston is in good order, except some of the courses
of stone above low water, at the entrance, which have been affected by the
heavy ice formed about them. These will be repaired as soon as an opportunity
presents itself; but during the past year the dock has so frequently been
called into requisition, for docking the large steamers, that the repairs could
not be made. The work of extending the dock has been pushed forward with great
energy ; the excavation is finished, and thus far the work has progressed
without interrupting the use of the dock for vessels. It is believed it will be
completed without any material interruption to its future use.
