Belgian single screw navy transport Kamina 1950-1967

Her building by J. Cockerill, Hoboken, Belgium was ordered in 1938 by Zeglugga Polska, Gdynia, Poland as a bananas transport. She was laid down on 11 December 1939 with yard number 683. At the outbreak of the Second World War was she still unfinished, seized on 10 May 1940 by the German forces \, launched on 26 December and towed to Kiel, Germany to be completed. On 16 December 1943 completed ad commissioned in the German kriegsmarine as the Herman von Wissman to be used as mother/supply vessel for torpedo boats an submarines. In 1945 seized by British forces while lying in Norway was she renamed HMS Royal Harold and at Kiel, Germany converted into a tranship hotel serving there in 1946-1947.  Next step was her transfer to Belgian in 9 December 1950 where she was commissioned as the naval transport Kamina (AP 907). She transported Belgian soldiers towards the Far East where they participated in the Korean War.. The Dutch newspaper Het vrije volk dated 13 December 1950 reported her arrival on Wednesday morning in the Waalhaven at Rotterdam, Netherlands where she in the morning of the 13th was demagnetized. She was now busy with her trial and would probably depart that afternoon to Antwerp, Belgium.  The Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 25 January 1951 reported for instance the arrival at Manila, Philippines underway with around 700 soldiers. Since 1951 at the Béliards&Crighton shipyards at Antwerp, Belgium modified and on 1 December 1952 renamed AP957 Kamina. After 1960 again rebuilt whilse she was no longer needed as a troop transport as the Belgian colony became independent. She became now the training ships and logistical supply vessel for minesweepers A957 Kamina. Decommissioned on 18 September 1967 sold on 12 September a year later to the Brugse Scheepssloperij to be broken up, arriving on the 26th. With a displacement of 3.840-5.750 tons were her dimensions 114 x 14,70 x 5,60 metres. Speed 15-17 (maximum) knots with the 3.600 hp delivered by 1 7cylinder Burnmeister&Wein diesel. Her crew numbered 175 men and she had accommodation for 650 soldiers. The armament consisted of 2-7,6cm guns, 4-4cm anti aircraft guns and 2-2cm anti aircraft oerlikons.
