German sailing ship J.W. Wendt used for petrol transport according to the Dutch newspaper Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode dated Tuesday 5 January 1886

An item reported that a few days ago Vlissingen, Netherlands was passed by the German frigate ship J.W. Wendt underway from New York, USA towards Antwerp, Belgium. She was world’s largest sailing ship used for transporting petrol with a cargo capacity of 14.700 barrels. Owned by the firm Siedenburg. Wendt&Co., Bremen, Germany. Her former opponent the Donald Mac Kay with a cargo capacity of 15.000 barrels was nowadays used as coal barge.
