British navy experimenting with new copper alloy for corrosivity protection according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviasche courant dated 4 September 1824

An item dated 2nd March reported that sir Humphrey Davys and sir Robert Sepping tested at Portsmouth, England during some days with a new alloy of copper with iron or zinc. Their intention was the copper used for doubling the hulls of ships in this manner was better protected against corrosivity of sea water. With this new alloy were the 28-gun ship HMS. Samarang, the brig of war HMS Manly (2) and some gunboats doubled.

1. 6th Rate, launched on 1 January 1822 at Cochin, British Indies guard ship 1847, sold in 1883, a 500 tons builders measurement and armament of 28 guns.
2. Gun brig, launched at the shipyard of Hill, Sandwich, England on 13 July 1812, sold on 12 December 1833, a 180 tons builders measurement and an armament of 12 guns.
