Italian navy strengthened with armoured ships Voragina and May according to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 17 February 1869

An item referred to tidings received from Genoa, Italy that in March the armoured battery Voragina and in May the armoured frigate Roma of 900 hp were to be launched. This news was sarcastic commented in the newspaper Unità while the name Voragina means abyss and so would the Italian cabinet be first confronted with an abyss  before she possessed Rome.
