Spanish armoured frigate armoured frigate Mendez Nunez destroyed according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 10 January 1874

An item dated Murcia, Spain 1^st reported that now was stated that instead of the Tetuan the Mendez Nunez was destroyed. The latter ship was a wood-built frigate armed with a battery of 8-10 guns of heavy calibre protected by armour. Just like the Numancia she anticipated in the defence. Some says ago was the beautiful floating dock of Cartagena hit by a grenade of the Ferriol-battery and immediately sink. The fleet commanded by Chivarro was lying off Cartagena.
