Dutch monitor Zr.Ms. Cerberus was stranded near Dovebalg but refloated according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch nieuwsblad dated 23 July 1898


An item dated Nieuwediep, Netherlands 22nd reported that the Dutch monitor Zr.Ms. Cerberus was stranded near Dovebalg. The Dutch tug Hercules was underway to assist her. The edition of the 25th reported that on the 22nd was refloated with the aid of the Dutch steam gunboat Zr.Ms. Gier.(1)

1. On stocks at the navy yard at Amsterdam, Netherlands on Saturday 30 November 1867, launched on 14 January 1869, trial on 7 July 1870, commissioned on 20 July 1870. Decommissioned in 1905 and sold to be broken up in 1906 to the firm G.B. Pas&Zn., Bolnes, Netherlands. Dimensions 54,08-56,60 (over all) x 13,33 x 3,91 metres, a displacement of 1.530 tons and original an armament of 2 rifled 28cm guns.
