British expeditionary force underway towards the Persian Gulf according to the Dutch newspaper De Noord-Brabanter dated 6 December 1856

An item dated London, England 3rd reported that according to the latest tidings received from British Indies the British expedition was underway towards Persia. She consisted of 26 sail transports, 3 steamships if the Bombay stationed steamship company and 4 smaller vessels with a total measurement of 30.000 ton for which the British government each day around ƒ 12.000 hire paid. The fleet was escorted by seven large steam warships. Supreme commander was admiral Henry Lake.(1)
