British expeditionary force fitted out for the attack on Sevastopol, Russia according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 1 November 1854

An item referred to the newspaper Globe reporting about the preparations for the intended expedition towards Sevastopol. Admiral Boxer was responsible for the disembarkation of the troops. The transports were divided in four squadrons, each with his own extra ordinary flag and commanded by a naval officer to prevent all kinds of confusion. Each army division had his own squadron of transports which was escorted by a small squadron of warships. This large fleet consisted of steamships of a larger size, capacity and speed than ever before.(1)
