British submarine HMS Oberon completed and to be commissioned on short notice according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1928 no. 3
An item referred to the magazine Schiffbau dated 7 March 1928 reporting that the British submarine HMS Oberon (1) with a displacement of 1.345 (surfaced)-1.805 (submerged) tons was completed at Portsmouth, England and to be commissioned on short notice. Of this design were 12 boats being built or was the building approved. The Royal British Navy seemed to prefer this design above larger submarines for combat value, manoeuvrability and availableness. They were easier and with more reliability to handle as the so-called submarine cruisers which latter alone could serve on open sea and deeper waters and with a much too large diving time considered the demands of modern times.
Note.
