Italian dreadnought Dante Alighieri launched in presence of royal family according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1910-1911 no.8


An item reported the launching on 3rd August in the presence of the Italian royal family of the first Italian dreadnought the Dante-Alighieri (1) laid down on 6 June 1909. Displacement 19.250 ton. The horsepower of 25.000 hp should allow a speed of 23 miles. The armour belt had a thickness of 25cm. The armament consisted of 4x3-30,5cm L/46 gun, 16-7,5cm guns and 3 submerged torpedo tubes.

1. First Italian dreadnought battleship. Preceded by the Regina Elena-class and succeeded by the Conte di Cavour-class. Laid down at the Castellammare di Stabia navy yard on 6 June 1909, launched on 20 August 1910, completed on 15 January 1913, modernized in 1923, stricken on 1 July 1928 and finally broken up in that same year. She was designed by the Italian rear admiral engineer Edoardo Masdea (2) at that moment Chief Constructor of the Italian navy using the ideas of general Vittorio Cuniberti (3).
