Austrian navy creating naval station in the Bay of Peljesac according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1909-1910 no. 3

An item referred to the magazine Monitor de la flotte reporting that the Austrian navy decided to found a naval station in the Bay of Sabbioncello, Dalmatia [Peljesac, Croatia]. Fortress on the peninsula of Sabioncello and on the mainland defended the bay. The isthmus of Stagno connecting the peninsula with the mainland was to be cut for creating a 8 metres depth channel securing a continuous passage between Spalato [Croatia] and Ragusa [Dubrovnik, Croatia].
