Gebiete des Seewesens dated January 1905 reporting that the two American colliers USS Erie and Ontario developed with a coal cargo of 5.000 ton a speed of 16 miles. They were built at the Navy Yard at New York (Man Island), USA with as building costs 6.500.000 francs for each ship.
