Greece bought former US battleships Idaho and Mississippi according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1914/1915 no. 4

An item reported that Greece bought from the USA the battleships Idaho (1) and Mississippi (2) and both ships were to be delivered on short notice. Turkey protested against the sale which resulted in a Greek navy become superior of the Turkish navy.

1. Of the Mississippi-class, laid down as the USS Idaho on 12 May 1904, launched on 9 December 1905, commissioned in the Greek navy as the Lemnos, de commissioned in 1932 and sunk in the naval base Salamis, Greece by German aircraft on 23 April 1941 and after the Second World War ended broken up. .
2. Of the Mississippi-class, renamed Kilkis in Greek service, laid down as the USS Mississippi on 12 May 1904, launched on 30 September 1905, commissioned in the Greek navy on 22 July 1914, sunk off Salamis, Greece by German aircraft on 23 April 1941 and finally salvaged on the 1950s.
