Spain fitting out several packets for transport and coast guard tasks around Cuba according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens 1896 nr. 3

An item referred to the Le Yacht reporting that the Spanish government fitted out and armed six packets for transport and coast guard tasks during the revolt at Cuba. The packets were:
Alfonso XII, dimensions 122,8 x 14,5 metres, 5.200 ton displacement and 5.000 ihp horsepower.
Alfonso XIII, dimensions ion 124,4 x 14,3 metres, 5.124 tons displacement and 5.700 ihp horsepower.
Reina Maria Cristina, dimensions 124,5 x 14,6 metres, 5.161 tons displacement and 5.700 ihp horsepower.
Léon XIII, dimensions 114,96 x 14,63 metres, 5.311 tons displacement and 5.200 ihp horsepower.
P. de Satrustegui, dimensions 115 x 14,63 metres, 5.000 tons displacement and 5.720 ihp horsepower.
Montevideo, dimensions 122,6 x 14,63 metres, 5.297 tons displacement and 5.000 ihp horsepower.
The packets built between 1888-1890, had with natural draft a speed of 17 knots. The armament consisted of 14cm Hontoria guns.
Two other packets were also now tested, namely the Buenos Aires (launched in 1887), dimensions 122 x 14,7 metres, 5.311 tons displacement and 5.000 ihp horsepower and the Cataluña (launched in 1883), dimensions 114,5 x 12,95 metres, 3.785 tons displacement and 5.261 ihp.
