Turkey stationing warships in the Gulf of Alexandrette according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens 1896 no. 7

An item referred to the Moniteur de la flotte reporting that the Turkish government stationed at Alexandrette [Iskenderun] the torpedo boats 1st class Tir-I-Bahri and Tay-Yar, transport Kaplan, paddle steam aviso Ismail, wood-built corvette Bejrut and the paddle steamships Arcadi and Kilij-Ali. Commanding officer of the station was rear admiral Mehmet-Pascha. Main taske were to prevent the smuggling of arms towards Armenia and the movements of foreign squadrons in the Gulf of Alexandrette.
