British Admiralty ordered large Sopwith aircraft according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1914 nos. 1-2
An item reported that the
British Admiralty ordered the Sopwith Company to build an aircraft with
dimensions which were quite larger as common such as a wingspan of 30 metres. The
plane was to be fitted out with a radio able to operate over long distance and
a quick firing gun. Machinery consisted of 2-120hp Austro-Daimler engines and
an auxiliary engine for the radio. The crew consisted of a pilot, a telegraphist
and a gunner.
